African Student Call For Applications now OPEN
It’s my pleasure to announce that the Additive Adventure 2015 Lost Mountain Next Gen Symposium is now accepting applications for 20 African undergraduate and graduate students to join us this July in Mozambique. The Symposium is a 12-day multidisciplinary conversation on conservation, science, and adventure held in concert with leadership, Leave No Trace, and backcountry skills training in Mozambique’s Limpopo and Gorongosa National Parks. And what’s more, a host of significant scholarships are available to our African participants.

Limited North American Student Spaces Remain
There is still time to join an incredible team of North American undergraduate and graduate students interested in contributing to the future of conservation based on the collaboration of scientists, adventurers, stewards of the natural world and others. Three spaces remain.

African Students:

Rolling admissions | Closing date of April 15th, 2015 | Apply

North American Students:

Rolling admissions | Closing date of March 15th, 2015 | Apply

More Details:
The Symposium takes place in Mozambique from July 10 to 21, 2015. Innovation, training, teaching, and collaboration alongside working African conservationists, leaders in the field, and North American and African Next Gens.

WHAT’s A NEXT GEN?

This past fall I spoke at more than a half-dozen professional conferences and universities. At the universities in particular I witnessed the moment where Additive Adventure intersects with engaged young people wanting to work on the hard issues of our time and dream big about our global future. The people looking to face those challenges? Those are Next Gens.

So now Additive Adventure and the Lost Mountain are heading back to Mozambique. With 26 friends. We hope you will be one of them.

IMPACT

Aka: The Namuli Effect. The Next Gen 2015 Symposium is focused on building new approaches to African conservation, starting with the peak that launched it all—Mount Namuli, The Lost Mountain. Additive Adventure’s charity partner Positive Tracks, a national, youth-centric nonprofit that helps young people get active and give back using the power of sport and adventure, along with Outdoor Industry Partners Osprey Packs and Goal Zero, will double every dollar Next Gen participants fundraise, until we have $90,000 to put towards innovative integrated conservation. The combined impact will help fuel the third phase of the Lost Mountain Project, which aims to secure protection for Namuli in Mozambique and its surrounding ecosystems, and then scale this approach to sites throughout the region.

Know someone who wants to pursue their passions for leaving positive change, explore this great planet, form new connections, and create lasting impact?

Not a Next Gen (i.e., somewhere north of age 23?) but want to get involved? We want you too! Drop me an email at mb@majkaburhardt.com to talk about options. There are always options.

HEADING NORTH
This past weekend I headed to the Canadian Rockies for a three days of ice climbing with my friend Anne-Gilbert Chase. Winter in the East has been perfect–for climbers and skiers–and I was still ready for even more up north. Gilbert, Peter Doucette and I had the honor of ringing in the New Year on the summit of Fitz Roy in Patagonia a few months ago. Thankfully climbing in Canada resulted in fewer cold bivies… Catch images and more on Instagram.
